I’ve heard it said that marketing is simple; tell people what you do, and tell them over and over again. For the average small business, I think that marketing should be that simple.  Small-business professionals wear multiple hats and their demands require simple and effective execution.

So we’re about finished with 2011 and every year about this time I start looking back and thinking about the year that was.  I think about the good things that happened, the bad things that went wrong, and the really ugly times that passed by.

Here are some lessons I learned from 2011:

  • Don’t be afraid to move forward with new opportunities.  2011 was the year that our company decided to venture into the smartphone app business.  There was a lot to learn and we were new players in this game – but hey – EVERYONE is a new player when it comes to smartphone apps.  Our decision has paid off and we have been very successful with this segment of our business.
